So, What Exactly Is MUN?

In a Model United Nations, students recreate this experience.

Instead of being ordinary students sitting in a classroom, they become delegates representing different countries.

For example, one student might represent Nepal, while another represents Japan, Brazil, Germany, or the United States.

The students then discuss a particular issue while trying to represent the interests and position of the country they have been assigned.

The goal is not simply to argue against one another.

The goal is to understand the problem, communicate ideas, negotiate with others, and work together to find a solution.

That is what makes MUN different from an ordinary debate.

How Does Parivartan MUN Work?

Before the event begins, participants are given a country and a committee.

They then research their country's policies, interests, and position regarding the topic they will be discussing.

Once the conference starts, the delegates enter their committee and begin the discussion.

They give speeches, listen to other delegates, ask questions, present ideas, negotiate with other countries, and form groups with people who may have different opinions.

Eventually, delegates work together to create a resolution—a document containing proposed solutions to the issue being discussed.

The delegates then vote on the proposed resolution.

So, throughout the conference, students are constantly speaking, listening, researching, thinking, negotiating, and collaborating.

And that is where the real learning happens.

Why Is MUN Beneficial for Students?

One of the biggest advantages of MUN is that students learn skills that cannot always be developed by simply reading a textbook.

Public Speaking

MUN encourages students to stand in front of an audience and express their ideas clearly.
