Seyed Abbas Araghchi is an Iranian diplomat who is serving as Iran's Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Araghchi had served for nine years with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) during the Iran-Iraq war.
Early Ambassadorial Roles: Ambassador to Finland (1999-2003) and Ambassador to Japan (2007-2011).
Lead Nuclear Negotiator: From 2013 to 2021, he was Iran's chief nuclear negotiator and one of the principal architects of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in 2015.
Senior Ministry Positions: Served as Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Deputy for Legal and International Affairs, and Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs (2017-2021).
In Foreign Policy and Diplomacy, he is open to dialogue and rejects coercion with a pragmatic approach to international relations. He advocates for reliance on Iran's own domestic capabilities and national cohesion for development and security.
Anti-Unilateralism: He stresses for the collective responsibility of states to confront aggressive unilateralism.
In essence, Araghchi's policy positions blend pragmatic openness to diplomacy with a firm stance on national sovereignty and resistance to external pressure.
"In my view, a person who is politically aware or engaged should analyze Mr. Abbas Araghchi. We can acquire or add to our framework for social or political action and enhance our observational learning."
